Please note that most band instruments are one size fits all. If you have questions about the size of the instrument your child is going to play, it's always best to consult your instructor.

To insure you're getting the right sized orchestra instrument check with your teacher or stop into our store and have someone on staff size the player for the best fit. You can also use the charts below for approximate arm lengths for violin and viola, and approximate heights for cello, and bass.

To measure for the approximate size violin or viola the player needs, you'll need to grab a yardstick. With the yardstick, measure from under the chin against the left side of the neck to the middle of the left palm, with left arm and hand fully extended out perpendicular to body.

To measure for the approximate size cello the player needs, you'll need to grab a yardstick and a chair. Seat the player so that the knees are bent at a ninety degree angle and there back straight. With the yardstick, measure the length of the back from where the player touches the seat up to the back of the head about middle of the ears.

To measure for the approximate size bass the player needs, it is easiest to go by their total height when standing.

If you are between two different sizes, you’ll likely be more comfortable with the smaller instrument. The best way to find out what works is to try one. You are always welcome to visit the store to receive help or try out instruments anytime during open hours.
